LAN Setup, Networking and Structured Cabling

New office networks from the cable up — structured Cat6, racks, switching, Wi-Fi and internet failover, tested and certified.

In short

Structured cabling is the standardised system of cables, patch panels, racks and outlets that carries data around a building, and LAN setup is the switching, Wi-Fi and routing layer that runs on top of it. ITVEDA installs complete office networks — Cat6 and Cat6A cabling, network racks, managed switches, VLANs, business Wi-Fi and dual-ISP failover — and certifies every cable run rather than simply checking that a light comes on. The result is a network that supports the next hardware refresh instead of needing to be rebuilt with it.

What is included

What LAN setup and structured cabling covers

Everything below is in scope as standard. Anything outside it is quoted and approved by you before any work starts.

  • Cat6 and Cat6A cabling

Permanent links installed to standard, in containment, labelled at both ends and recorded on a floor plan.

  • Racks and patching

Wall or floor racks with patch panels, cable management, PDUs, UPS and proper ventilation.

  • Managed switching

Layer 2 and layer 3 switches configured with VLANs, PoE budgets and uplinks that will not bottleneck.

  • Business Wi-Fi

Access points positioned from a coverage survey, with separate staff and guest networks and seamless roaming.

  • Internet and failover

Primary and secondary ISP links with automatic failover so a single line does not take the office offline.

  • Certification and documentation

Every run tested with a cable certifier, and you receive the results, the port map and the rack diagram.

How it works

The delivery process, step by step

Nothing here is a surprise on the day. Each step has a named output, and you sign off before the next one starts.

  1. 1 · Site survey

    In progress

Seat count, floor plan, cable routes, rack position, power and any civil constraints established on site.

  2. 2 · Network design

    Not started

Point count, VLAN plan, switch sizing, PoE budget and AP placement documented and priced.

  3. 3 · Cable installation

    Not started

Runs pulled in containment, terminated to standard and labelled consistently at both ends.

  4. 4 · Active equipment

    Not started

Rack built, switches, router, firewall and access points installed and configured.

  5. 5 · Testing and certification

    Not started

Each link certified, with results supplied as a report rather than a verbal assurance.

  6. 6 · Handover pack

    Not started

Port map, rack diagram, VLAN plan, IP schedule, device credentials and certification results.

What changes

What you actually get out of it

  • A network that supports gigabit and multi-gigabit without recabling

  • Faults traced in minutes because every run is labelled and mapped

  • Wi-Fi that covers the whole floor, including the corner meeting room

  • The office stays online when one internet link drops

Questions

LAN & Cabling — frequently asked questions

Straight answers, including the cases where the honest answer is that you do not need this service.

Should we install Cat6 or Cat6A cable?

Cat6 supports gigabit across a full 90-metre run and 10 gigabit up to about 55 metres, which is sufficient for most office desks. Cat6A supports 10 gigabit over the full distance and is worth the extra cost for backbone runs, server room links, Wi-Fi 6E and 7 access points and any cabling you expect to keep for more than a decade.

How long does it take to cable a new office?

A typical fifty-seat single-floor office takes three to five working days for cabling, racking and active equipment, assuming civil work and power are ready. We can work outside business hours or in phases for an occupied office.

How many network points does each desk need?

Two is the working standard — one for the computer and one spare for a phone, a second monitor with a dock, or a future device. Adding a point later costs several times what it costs during the initial pull.

Can you set up a new office network end to end?

Yes. Cabling, rack, switches, firewall, Wi-Fi, internet lines, printers, servers, workstations and CCTV can all be delivered as a single project with one point of contact and one handover date.

Do you provide cable test certificates?

Yes. Every permanent link is tested with a certifier and the results are handed over with the port map and rack diagram. Cabling installed without certification is the most common reason for intermittent faults that nobody can reproduce.
